Setting: St. Peter's Balcony, Rome. The population of Rome is jubilant. A new pope has been elected. Fireworks bespoke the skies, and merriment is made throughout the city, free from the burden of the death of the previous Pope. Thousands fill the Basilica's Square as the Sacred Band and Sisters patrol the streets. Appearing on the balcony of St. Peters is the newly crowned King Carlos of Spain resplendent in coronation robes, Stefano de' Medici, Alfonso de Borja, and his father Jean de Borgia all in traditional cardinal's robes. Stepping from behind them comes Pope Helius I, in opulent papal robes and a new tiara, lacking the two extra crowns but with a great radiant crown at its base(http://i.imgur.com/pozOIo6.png). The pope bows, makes the sign of the cross, and makes his opening remarks:
"Subjects of Rome, of the Spanish Crown, all of the Christian subjects of god....We are at peace. The conflicts of Leo XIV are gone. The great civil conflict between these two men, here *points to Alfonso and Carlos*, is over. It is done! The dark age of era has ended with this conclave, and the light and Sun of God pierces those malevolent clouds and shows us a brighter, glorious, future for our people. For all people who this papacy serves as vicar of Christ! We will rebuild. We will become a great civilization again. I intend for this papacy to make our empire one of the greatest in history, envied by allies and rivals alike. The Borgia bull may be wounded in the corrida known as geopolitics, but it will always stand proud and resplendent, unyielding, and strong! This does not mean we will wage wanton war against those we disagree with. No. We've seen too much of that. I wish to defend our interests, but we will not in my pontificate, be the aggressors in war.
That all being said, I hereby declare a new golden age to begin today. Peace, Prosperity, Prestige. These shall be the magnum opus of which I set to attain.
I urge all Christians to set for themselves similar goals. Make peace with your enemies. Compromise with your rivals. Set an example to our progeny and unto their progeny. Work hard, make money, and render unto the poor. Create art, patronize art and serve your communities. Join our army, and defend those who cannot defend themselves. Serve the priesthood, the bureaucracy, or join a monastic order. Serve and maintain this country and church for the greater glory. Service and holy work are some of the greatest things a man or woman can do.
Divisions have wrought the Borgia family and its branches in the last few decades. I make it my purpose to heal these wounds. Pope Pelagius III's peace plan shall be upheld to the letter. King Carlos will lead Iberia and Alfonso will be his protector. Pelagius himself, as promised, shall replace me as legatus to the empire of the east. Many ideas were floated during this conclave, some of which I will retain into my pontificate. Stefano de' Medici-Borgia shall be made minister of the treasury, and head economic and technological development for our empire. He shall work with Giovanni for military development as well. Let this show the world that our great darkness is over, and that the Borgia family is one again. We work together. We fight together. We serve god. Together.
I thank God for the life he gives us every day, and I thank you all for letting me serve as your pontiff. May all be blessed who live everywhere where the sun's light touches!"~Pope Helius I, livestreamed on YouTube at 10:52 AM, January 12
